Production

From the first thread to the finished hammock

In our in-house spinning, weaving, carpentry and metal workshop, we process high-quality materials and raw materials and use them to develop our products and designs.

In our own CHICO-twisting mill we process almost 20 tons of selected yarns in a variety of magnificent colours every year. Our self-made looms process cotton and synthetic yarns. Each individual thread is woven continuously and is therefore fully resilient. The finishing of the CHICO-hammocks and CHICO-hammock chairs involves a lot of manual work. Here the CHICO- hammocks are knotted, corded and threaded.

We use modern machine technology as well as exact manual work to refine the ash wood into practical folding frames and to exactly apply glue layers.

Materials

The material für our hammocks: basis for highest quality

Ash wood - a sustainable raw material

We have choosen high-quality ash wood as the staring material for our frames. Our wood grows in Upper Austria, Salzburg and the neighboring Bavarian region. In additoin to the great properties of ash wood (flexible, tough and resistant) it offers another advantage: the entire transport time from the forest to our factory takes just under two hours, i.e. little CO2. Also, our wood grows in sustainably managed forests and is therefore PEFC certified.

Hammocks out of cotton - for nature lover

Our cotton is spun and dyed in Italy and Portugal. Here, too, we pay attention to high quality and ecological standarts. The yarns for our ecological cotton hammocks are produced according to the "Öko-Tex" 100Standarts and for the most part according to GOTS standarts.

Hammocks out of Polyester – the weatherproof variant

Most of our PES yarn is made in Poland. Our suplier conduct a modern spinning and dying mill in which production is carried out according to the European enviromental standarts. The yarns for our polyester hammocks have the "Öko-Tex" certificate.
