CHICO quality from Austria has been around for 40 years now

Our company, the CHICO Hängematte GmbH is situated between lush meadows and wooded hills. The former farmhouse houses the twisting mill, weaving mill and our frame production.

We have been manufacturing our unique pieces here since 1981 with a lot of heart and soul.

Out of conviction we have chosen Upper Austria as our company location and do not produce mass-producted goods in low-wage countries. In our own twisting mill, weaving mill, joinery and metal workshop we process high-quality materials and develop new products and designs.

In this way we can influence every single step of the process in order to provide our customers with the best quality. Even custom-made products are possible for us. We continue to maintain this high quality standard in our dealings with our customers.

The history of CHICO

How did you get the idea to produce hammocks?

1985

Founding

Despite many skeptics ("Hammocks - who needs such a thing!") the foundation of CHICO Hängematte GmbH takes place in Oepping. The first part of the parental farm is rebuilt for the new factory.

1989

Extension

The production is extended by our own twisting mill.

1990

Product extension

The long time of testing and fiddling around has come to an end! The first hammock chair by CHICO from Oepping is launched.

1991

Made in Austria

Many companies are relocating their production facilities to the nearby Czech Republic to be able to produce cheaply. We, on the other hand, remain firmly committed to our strategy: Made in Austria

1994

Renovation

Another reconstruction of the farm - the CHICO weaving mill and the carpentry get more space.

1998

Renovation

In the "cowshed", people are now talking on the phone and are doing business. Of course after the old vaults and rooms have been carefully renovated. :-)

1999

Guinnes book of records

12 meters length, 3.8 meters width and 2 tons load capacity. CHICO is making history and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records with the largest hammock in the world.

2002

Online Shop

Finally we got it: Our first e-shop is online!

2004

New branch

The "Mühlviertler" sets off for the big city. In autumn, we open our own branch in the 7th district of Vienna and now have a third main pillar next to the CHICO head offices in Eugendorf and Oepping.

2007

Stainless steel

Being repeatedly approached by customers, we developed a hammock frame made of stainless steel.

2008

Project

In Burkina Faso, 700,000 tons of cotton are harvested annually, and yet the country is one of the poorest in the world. It lacks the technical prerequisites for processing the resource in large quantities. This is exactly where CHICO would like to help, so that more added value remains in the country.

2009

Handover of the management

Hildegard Rohrmoser retires after many years of successful entrepreneurship and hands over the management to Sylvia Katzlinger.

2013

Handover of the plant management

Georg Katzlinger takes over the operations management and procuration. His tasks also include mechanical engineering, where he is actively supported by Makus Katzlinger Automation.

2016

construction of new machines

The heads in our "mechatronics department" are spinning ... In these two years Georg and Markus Katzlinger plan and build two woodworking machines and a new weaving loom.
