New, flawless and colorful - this is how our CHICO hammocks and hammock chairs leave our factory in Oepping in Upper Austria. While some are allowed to stretch between trees in summer or dangle from the ceiling indoors all year round, others are extended with a frame and find space on the terrace, on the balcony or in other places of retreat. One is used for reading, the other for games and others are even taken on vacation. What unites them all is the fact that time has left their mark on them too. Therefore, it is all the more important to take good care of them. But what should you pay special attention to when it comes to care and cleaning? We give you tips and tell you how you can optimally clean and care for your hammock or hammock chair.
Basically, how often you clean your hammock depends on how intensively you use it. We recommend you wash them at least once a year. However, if you spend every free minute in it, you should give it a little more care - a six-monthly washing service is then the best choice. You can clean your hammock in three ways:
Our laundry service: You are on the safe side if you use our laundry service. Depending on the product, this costs between 30 and 60 euros and you don't have to worry about anything - apart from the delivery. In the first step, the hammocks and hammock chairs are threaded out of the wood, then washed, dried and finally threaded again. We also check whether the product is damaged or whether it needs repairs. For example, we correct small pulled or protruding threads in no time. Depending on the order situation and the available staff, your clean everyday companion will be back with you in two weeks. Important: If you send us your mat by post for cleaning, we absolutely need information about who owns the hammock and where we can send it again after the cleaning process.
Cleaning in the open air: You can also clean the hammock yourself - the natural warmth of the summer sun will help you, especially in the warm season. Ideally, use our special fabric cleaner for this purpose. The advantage: This is optimally tailored to our products and their needs. It is generally excellent for tackling some stains. And this is how it works: On hot days, first spray your hammock with the garden hose – directly in the frame. Then spread a walnut-sized portion of the cleaner on the hammock or hammock chair and rub the detergent into the fabric. Then wash the cleaner out well and let your everyday companion dry.
Cleaning in the washing machine: You can also put the hammock in the washing machine for cleaning. But beware: A few precautions must be taken here: Be sure to unthread the wood beforehand, then tie the cords together with a thread so that they do not unravel during the washing process, and gently clean the hammock at 30 degrees. Our cleaner has also proven its worth here - if you want, you can also add a walnut-sized portion to the drum.
If you decide to do the cleaning on your own, be sure to let the mats and chairs dry well before you fold them up again or put them away. Otherwise mold stains can occur. And: Never wash our products with a high-pressure cleaner!
To ensure that you can enjoy your hammock or hanging chair for a long time, you should also take a few other things to heart:
– Be sure to bring your hammock indoors in winter. You should also overwinter the racks indoors. Our stainless steel frames are an exception - they also withstand lower temperatures.
– Keep the hammock safe from mice. It is best to use a box for this or store our products in a secure cupboard. Because beware: If your hammock has been eaten and the animal bites are already advanced, we can no longer repair it.
– Don't leave your hammock in humid, shady areas in the summer. Otherwise verdigris, mold & co. can spread. These are also factors that make cleaning more difficult and can significantly shorten the life of your everyday companion.
If you stick to these basic rules in terms of care and cleaning, you and your hammock will have truly glorious days ahead. After all, hammocks that are well cared for and washed regularly often reach an age of 20 years. And we have already summarized the adventures you two can experience elsewhere - when we let one of our hammocks have its say.
