When the temperatures drop, daylight dwindles and winter sends its first greetings, our lives shift more indoors again. Then we pick up a good book, plan game nights with friends, use the vegetables that fall has given us, or lose ourselves for hours crafting and decorating. The “cocooning” trend, which can be translated as “pupating”, fits perfectly into this. But what exactly is cocooning? And what does this have to do with the ambience of our home? We investigated.
Our world is becoming faster, more virtual and less binding every day. The result: Many feel overwhelmed and, in contrast, long for deceleration, analogue, real empathy and honest communication, combined with an intimate atmosphere. This need for pure moments of the heart and a cozy place where we can gather our loved ones always lies dormant within us, but is particularly noticeable in winter. Because then the cold will drive us indoors again anyway. When the leaves have changed color and icy wind blows around the houses, we are increasingly on the lookout for the real, consistent and mindful and want to share this with others. And the basis for this is a place. One that conveys home. Our home. Cocooning can therefore be described as a kind of “campfire mentality” in which we exchange ideas with other people in a living room atmosphere. We consciously withdraw, focus on our favorite people and leave the rest of the world outside.Closely related to this are the trends or terms “Hygge” and “JOMO”: Hygge also focuses on the pursuit of comfort and coziness, as well as on familiarity and intimacy, which means that one’s own four walls are preferred over any party. And JOMO stands for “The Joy Of Missing Out”. This means that more and more people are consciously taking the risk of missing an event in order to instead spend the time contemplatively.
A place of retreat is central to cocooning. This should radiate security and warmth, but also have the necessary technology and the right equipment ready, because cocooning does not mean isolation at all, but rather spending evenings watching TV, playing games or cuddling together. And with these tips, your home will quickly become the perfect cocooning scene:
Cozy centerpiece: The centerpiece of many cocooning backdrops is a comfortable sofa. Spiced up with cozy XXL blankets and plaids and surrounded by carpets and furs, a cozy atmosphere quickly arises here. But comfortable wing chairs, cozy window sills or our versatile hammocks and hammock chairs are also ideal places for happiness.
Nature in focus: When it comes to colors, you can be inspired by nature. No matter whether it's calm beige, pastel green or delicate rosé - all of this quickly creates a cozy atmosphere. Now in autumn, more striking colors such as rust red, mandarin yellow or gold can also be added. When it comes to materials, naturalness also has priority. Therefore, rely on wood, cotton or linen. And the decoration can also come from outside: whether it's dried leaves, pine cones, chestnuts or small branches - they look great on the walls or on tables. And the walk and the subsequent craft session could become the first cocooning event.
Of light and warmth: The right lighting is also fundamental. And you can have fun with it, because the more light sources the better. You can therefore supplement the obligatory ceiling light with floor lamps or fairy lights, for example. Candles or even a flickering fireplace immediately create a cocooning atmosphere.
But cocooning wouldn't be cocooning if people of heart didn't liven up your home. So grab your loved ones and celebrate this trend while autumn slowly gives way to winter outside. Until finally the New Year's corks pop and it's time to start a new spring. We wish you a pleasant and wonderful cocooning time!
