Playgrounds, bathing bays or even suspension bridges - parks lure visitors from all over the world with many highlights. In a few of them you can even literally hang out - namely in hammocks. Just imagine it: The fabric envelops your body while the mat gently sways. It´s a bit like floating. And in any case delightful. A green canopy of leaves may stretch out above you, behind it a delicate sky blue. Hammock parks only exist on the other side of the world? Wrong thought! Although these parks are now spread across all continents, you can even relax in hammock parks in Austria. So today we are introducing you to a few hammock parks in Austria, but also worldwide. Because who knows: maybe you'll get the travel bug.
Whether combined with a hike or a mountain bike tour or as a destination for a relaxing Sunday - the following hammock parks in Austria invite you to chill out.
Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting, Bezirk Wels district (Upper Austria)
The hammock park in the municipality of Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting is a small, 0.1 hectare green area in the meadows of the Alm river, about five kilometers from the center. Some seating and fixed hammocks invite you to relax there. A few meters downstream is the Reifenmühle Steg and the wildly romantic area is generally ideal for hikes or mountain bike tours. If you want, you can combine a visit to this hammock park with a stage of the Almuferweg, which begins at the parking lot immediately after the Almbrücke.

Wildschönau, district of Kufstein (Tyrol)
A highlight especially for mountain fans are five specially designed stations around the Kirchdorf Niederau in Tyrol. These are located near the Markbachjochbahn, at the mountain lake below the Kasalm or a few meters above the Foisching snack bar. This park is probably one of the most promising hammock parks in Austria, after all you can relax at an altitude of 1,500 meters. Another advantage: The tree trunks of the designed places already have hooks - so you either hang your own hammock or borrow one from individual landlords or in the Blachfelder sports shop.
Karwendel, district of Schwaz (Tyrol)
You can also collect moments of happiness in hammocks between mountain peaks in the Karwendel tourist region, also in Tyrol. The Pillberg Grafenast (Hochpillberg), Pillberg Mausawiesl (Pillberg), Jenbach Kasbach-Spielplatz (Jenbach) and Pillberg Loassattel (Hochpillberg) playgrounds were created here for outdoor chillers. The black hammocks are also already fixed - so those looking for peace and quiet don't have to take anything else with them than a little time.
Bruno-Kreisky-Park, Margareten district (Vienna)
Hanging out in the middle of the city - that's possible in the Bruno-Kreisky-Park in Vienna's fifth district. What was originally conceived as a temporary installation by the artist Michael Kienzer has been a permanent retreat since 2011 to escape the stress of everyday life. From May to October, part of the approximately 10,300 square meter Margareten Park will be equipped with hammocks. Incidentally, this is not the only public green space with hammocks in the federal capital: hammocks are also swaying in the sun in Rudolf Bednar Park, on the Danube Island at “Himmel und Wasser”, in Hamerling Park, in Rohrauer Park or at Neugebäude Palace.
If you are drawn out into the wide world, there are also some interesting hammock parks open to you. A few possibilities:
Otrøya island, Norway
Digergrubben is a peak on the Norwegian island of Otrøya. Right there, on a scenic spot above the steep and rocky shore and a five to six minute walk away from a hiking trail, a hammock park has been built. Specifically, 50 mm thick steel rods with attachment points rise up there - up to eight hammocks can dangle there. Visitors reserve one of the seats in advance and thus also have access to a toilet.
Governors Island, New York
In the land of unlimited possibilities, hammock parks should not be missing. One such is open to visitors on the 70-acre Governors Island in New York, an island that is part of Manhattan. In the so-called Hammock Grove you can relax on red hammocks. The eye enjoys the skyline of the city and if you look closely you can even see the Statue of Liberty in the distance.
City Centre, Copenhagen
Hammock fans also have reason to be happy in Denmark's capital Copenhagen: the blue and red hammock constructions called "Off Ground" have been the center of attention there for a few years. The highlight: They not only invite you to literally lose your feet, but are also sustainable. They were made from old fire hoses.
The Alps, the federal capital Vienna, Norwegian coasts or even New York - these are all undoubtedly interesting and unique places. But why roam far away when your own home can also become a top-class retreat? Simply bring your favorite hammock home and enjoy hammock happiness every day. With a cup of coffee in the morning, your favorite series in the afternoon or to catch some rays of sunshine in between. And wherever there is not enough space for a hammock, our hammock chairs make their grand entrance.
