CHICO hammocks for the next generation: visiting the Aigen-Schlägl kindergarten

Weave and let weave. That was the motto in the Mühlviertel for a long time. In the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, weaving products were the most important export goods from Upper Austria, alongside wood, salt and hardware. Today, on the other hand, you have to look closely to find traces of the former weaving stronghold - but they exist! A few companies continue to uphold the tradition. And the bluish-violet flowers of the flax are blooming more often in the fields again. Because two things are on the rise again: the love of craftsmanship and the commitment to the region. There is a very special place in Aigen-Schlägl between the district nursing home and the Glashütteteich. Every now and then the whistle of the nearby Mühlkreisbahn can be heard, but mostly a completely different noise is omnipresent: happy children's laughter. Because this is where the kindergarten team sets itself one of the most important tasks every day: the teachers, specialists, helpers and two civil servants set out with the children to discover and further develop their abilities, skills and talents. And thus prepare the generation of tomorrow in the best possible way for the rest of their lives. "We attach great importance to the children becoming independent, having perspectives and we consciously give them more of a voice and let them actively decide some things themselves," says director Lucia Gierlinger, who has been working here since 1986. On the one hand, the daily routine conveys security and support, while at the same time allowing enough openness and flexibility. They have been an integral part of the kindergarten for 25 years. Each of the kindergarten groups has a CHICO hammock chair. “The kids love to swing on it. Or they simply sit down to observe, for example if they are not taking part in what is happening at the moment," reveals Gierlinger. It also gives a sense of security, especially to those children who are new to the group, to gradually fit in. In between, it is also simply rested once. The educators also use it as a place to comfort the children,” says the head of the kindergarten. Learning, for example everything that has to do with language, such as the first rhymes, is sometimes easier with the gentle rocking.

"It just feels right"
